Application Deadline: Open Until Filled

Job Description

Under the guidance of a supervisor, the successful candidate will conduct fundamental research, supported by a DOE BES grant, on the mechanisms for the control and manipulation of quantum spin phenomena following light-induced charge transfer events. To reach the research goal, the mechanistic understanding of light-induced quantum phenomena in natural and artificial donor-acceptor systems, where long-lived electron spin-based entanglement is readily achieved and detected, is required.

The successful candidate will use experimental and theoretical approaches including suite of advanced Electron Paramagnetic/Spin Resonance (EPR/ESR) techniques, such as continuous wave and pulsed, time-resolved EPR experiments, to study different types of natural and artificial photosynthetic systems. In addition, the candidate will analyze data, prepare manuscripts for peer-reviewed publications and make presentations at scientific meetings, maintain comprehensive knowledge of pertinent literature and develop new ideas, concepts, and/or research proposals.

The candidate will join a team of physical chemists and biochemists in the Solar Energy Conversion group and will be mainly involved with advanced experiments on Bruker ELEXSYS E580 and home-built 130 GHz EPR spectrometers which allow in-situ light exaction of the samples by LEDs and pulsed Lasers.
