Position Description

The individual identified for this position will be responsible for developing and implementing specialized statistical techniques and statistical programming using SAS, R, and/or other analysis programs to analyze and manage claims data for individuals enrolled in Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance plans. Specific responsibilities of this position include: manage various datasets, determine summary statistics, conduct hypotheses testing, estimate statistical models, report formats and other analysis considerations, determine and write statistical considerations and algorithms for protocol documents according to study design and appropriate statistical methods, prioritize and monitor data management tasks and data analysis projects, manage and maintain documentation of files and analyses. This person will make decisions about how to implement analysis and provide well written detailed reporting of results, including determination of proper summary statistics, report formats and other analysis considerations. This person will summarize and present findings as reports, tables, graphs, and models, and will collaborate with faculty on manuscripts, abstracts, and other publications documenting study findings. The person will be responsible for successful completion of these tasks within competing project timelines, and must ensure integrity of data collection, data review, data compilation, and analysis techniques. The person must follow proper procedures for working with confidential data in compliance with institutional and regulatory guidelines, including staying current with training requirements related to human subject's research and data security.

This person must be able to work independently, as well as collaboratively with senior researchers and other research team members. This job is ideal for someone with enthusiasm for empirical research and the ability and interest to learn new skills and take initiative as projects develop.

Basic Qualifications
  • Minimum of five years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
  • Master's degree in statistics, economics, or related quantitative field preferred.
  • Relevant graduate work may count toward years of experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of statistical programming software in a research setting preferred.
  • he ideal candidate will have a strong quantitative background, experience working with large data sets and statistical and data management packages R and SAS.
  • Strong PC skills expected.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Must have ability to work independently with little supervision as well as part of a team.
  • Preference for advanced degree in statistics or related quantitative field.
  • Previous experience with health care claims strongly preferred
  • A command of English language and excellent written and verbal skills are essential.
Additional Information
This is a one-year term position from the date of hire, with the possibility of extension, contingent upon work performance and continued funding to support the position. 

This position is based in Boston and some in-person on-campus work will be required, and flexible/remote work is an option. Any remote work must be performed in a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA*, CT, GA, IL, MA, MD, ME, NH, NJ, NY, RI, VA, VT, and WA). Individual flexible and remote work options for this role will be discussed during the interview process. *Note: Harvard employees working in California must be exempt.
