The Risk Manager and International Risk Specialist for the University of Oklahoma Norman campus will assist in placing new and renewing existing lines of insurance including travel insurance policy for study abroad; grow and preserve University assets; coordinate claims activity with Legal Counsel and insurance providers; prepare reports on safety, international risk, insurance and loss prevention issues; manage recovery of damage expenses from insurance providers; coordinate policies, procedures and training programs in insurance and loss prevention, and other trainings to mitigate exposure both domestically and abroad; network with departments and University employees to further safety and risk management programs; act as the contact with insurance providers and brokers on risk management issues; oversee the gathering of information and completion of annual required insurance surveys for the Oklahoma Office of Management & Enterprise Services Risk Management; and other duties as necessary including possible supervision of employees.

Duties:

  • Ensures that risk management programs conform to established guidelines, policies, and procedures, and State law.  
  • Administers various campus-wide risk management programs.
  • Provides supervision to staff.
  • Administers risk management programs and provides recommendations for program improvement, development, and revision.
  • Serves as a point of contact for insurance questions.
  • Assists with the implementation of procedures for loss prevention and risk management issues.
  • Coordinate policies, procedures, and training programs in insurance and loss prevention.
  • Prepares security assessments when requested, including protocols for international travel.
  • Coordinates claims activity with Legal Counsel and insurance providers.
  • Oversees insurance collection from third parties for damage to university property.
  • Prepare reports on safety, insurance, and loss prevention issues.
  • Reviews various university insuring contracts and agreements.
  • Responsible for maintaining contract and payment negotiations.
  • Reviews commercial insurance availability and applicability.
  • Performs liability and risk management analyses.
  • Provides recommendations for program improvement, development, and revision.
  • Provides assistance in training of university employees in claims reporting as well as property casualty and risk management programs.
  • Ensures that appropriate documentation, including waivers, are in place and signed for various activities.
  • Supervises the activities and performance of assigned personnel.
  • Performs various tasks as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

The position is located in Norman with a flexible and/or remote option possible for qualified candidates.  

 

Job Requirements

Required Education: Bachelor Degree in Risk Management or a related field, AND: 

  • 48 months of experience in the insurance profession, property and casualty coverage, or risk management.

Equivalency/Substitution: Will accept 48 months of equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor's degree for a total of 96 months experience.

Skills:

  • Ability to speak, read and write clear, concise English
  • Effective public speaking skills
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information
  • Highly organized and able to handle multiple projects and deadlines
  • Able to communicate well and build rapport quickly with students, faculty and staff
  • Able to produce reports and complete work within deadlines
  • Able to work well with interdepartmental teams and initiatives

Advertised Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to engage in repetitive motions, communicate, hear, move, stand and lift up to 25 lbs.

Departmental Preferences:

  • Master's Degree in insurance, risk or business management
  • Work experience in University risk and/or education abroad department

Supervision: 

  • 1-3 employees as necessary
