Job Summary
Interviews and advises transfer students regarding information, procedures and academic requirements as part fo the Owl Advising Program. Provides academic guidance and program information to the transfer students. Assists transfer students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities and setting goals.

Responsibilities
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1.Provides academic advising services to assigned transfer students and/or college
2.Prepares advising materials such as student information, advising guides and recruitmentmaterials
3.Presents academic information to orientation groups and potential students and parents
4.Fosters student success through retention, progression, and graduation initiatives
5.Communicates with and supports students regarding academic difficulties and academicprobation processes
6.Confers with prospective and transfer students
7.Develops and maintains positive working relationships with faculty, staff, and administratorswithin and across academic units
8.Serves as an intermediary between transfer student, KSU Registrar’s Office, the student’s majordepartment chair, and when necessary, relevant partners at other institutions
9.Represents the assigned college on appropriate campus committees or promotional events
10.Responsible for accurate and reliable application of transfer credits to a student’s degree plan
11.Advise on and apply KSU Policy as related to eligible transfer credits, prior learningassessment, program admission requirements, appropriate course substitutions
12. Provide high-quality academic advising services to current KSU students. Services include developing multi-semester degree planning, aligning students’ academic interests and aptitudes with appropriate professional goals, connecting students with appropriate academic and non-academic student services that promote student success, and maintain thorough and accurate documentation of advising practices.
13. Lead advising sessions for new and incoming students, both at orientation and in pre-Ignition advising sessions with students and families.
14. As appropriate, assist the unit in preparation of reports/analytics related to advising activity, student success metrics, etc.
15. Assist with the coordination of unit-level communication plans regarding key milestones, registration deadlines, academic resources, etc.
16. Provide second level oversight of retention, progression, and graduation of students within the assigned population, and offer proactive outreach for those students who may most benefit from timely advising interventions.
17. Participation and beginning leadership in professional development opportunities offered through KSU and state, regional, and national organizations (KSAAN, NACADA, NAAHP, etc.)



Required Qualifications
Educational Requirements
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field

Required Experience
Minimum four (4) years of experience as an academic advisor (or closely related profession)

Preferred Qualifications
Additional Preferred Qualifications
Demonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by the peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as Banner, Nolij, EAB SSC, and comparable tools

Preferred Educational Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited institution of higher education in related field

ABILITIES
Ability to gather information from the originating institution or KSU department to assist the proper completion of a valid and purposeful academic plan
Able to access confidential student information
Ability to interact effectively with students
Participates in ongoing professional development activities that enhance academic advising outcomes
Able to work evenings and weekends to support College initiatives, events and /or activities
Able to handle multiple tasks or projects at one-time meeting assigned deadlines

KNOWLEDGE
Demonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by the peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as Banner, Nolij, EAB SSC, and comparable tools

SKILLS
Excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills
Proficient with computer applications and programs associated with the position (i.e. Microsoft Office suite)
Strong attention to detail and follow up skills
Strong customer service skills and phone and e-mail etiquette
