Department 5325, Flight Systems and Avionics is seeking a year-round STEM intern to join our diverse team of engineers. The position is targeted for individuals looking to gain experience designing, developing, and creating advanced test systems and techniques. Our team of Test Engineers is looking to evolve our current test architectures and incorporate new technologies to further advance our current test capabilities. The test systems are employed by many organizations across the lab to meet environmental test requirements.

On any given day, you may be called on to:

  • Evaluate electronic hardware using CAD tools and laboratory equipment.
  • Review and capture schematics to develop electronic designs.
  • Read and compare component datasheets.
  • Write, edit, and run through test procedures.
  • Write and present reports.

Qualifications We Require:

You bring the confidence and skills to be eligible for the job by meeting these minimum requirements:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited undergraduate program
  • Pursuing a science, engineering, or math major
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0/4.0
  • Ability to work up to 25 hours per week during the academic year, and up to 40 hours per week during the summer
  • U.S. citizenship

Qualifications We Desire:

  • Currently attending and enrolled full time in an accredited graduate program near Albuquerque, New Mexico
  • Enrolled in a bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer Engineering in at least the Junior year of study.
  • Pursuing an Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
  • Undergraduate student studying Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science
  • Basic understanding of circuit theory.
  • Experience using basic laboratory equipment – power supply, oscilloscope, multimeter, etc.
  • Familiar with the use of CAD programs to do:
  • Schematic Capture
  • PCB Layout
  • Circuit modelling
  • Ability to write reports and procedures.

About Our Team:

The Flight Systems and Avionics (5325) Department at Sandia supports the development and delivery of critical innovative computing solutions for Navigation/Pointing/Control Systems, Specialized Radars & Hypersonic systems. Our department specializes in reconfigurable modular digital signal processing systems utilizing leading edge FPGA technology and general-purpose microprocessors. The department also specializes in the design, development, and rigorous testing of novel Digital Electronics for Hyper Sonics Systems, Inertial Navigations Systems, and Synthetic Aperture RADARs (SAR). Some of the work areas include inertial navigation, inertial measurement unit (IMU) integration and test, Global Positioning System (GPS) receiver integration & test, hypersonic vehicle Guidance Navigation Control algorithm implementation, and HWIL/SWIL simulators.

Security Clearance:
