Job Description

Summary

Baylor College of Medicine has a part-time Laboratory Manager position available to join our Elephant Endotheliotrophic Herpes Virus (EEHV) research group. The job will entail administrative oversight of our EEHV testing service and general lab organization, including generation of inventories for supplies, biological samples, and reagents. The position will require learning how to use the Baylor procurement system and assisting with managing the lab budget. The candidate should have a BA or BS and experience with using word processing and spreadsheet software. Knowledge of EEHV and Elephants is highly desirable.

Job Duties

  • Cataloging and organizing elephant serum samples for our EEHV serology service.
  • Preparation of serology results reports. - Organizing electronic files with serology results data for easy searching and access.
  • Learn the BCM procurement system to handle all orders for the lab. - Ensures ordering for the lab does not exceed lab budget.
  • Generate databases for lab reagents, chemicals, and biologicals and organize according to storage requirements (Refrigerator/ freezer, liquid nitrogen).
  • Arrange service calls for lab equipment and other lab needs (leaky faucets or roof, BSL2 certification, etc.)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
  • Five years of relevant experience, with prior supervisory experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Intimate knowledge of EEHV and Elephants both ex situ and in the wild.
