Job Description

Summary

The Division of Vascular Surgery in the Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking an Ultrasound Technician I. This position will provide clinical support by assisting physicians in performing invasive procedures by guiding with ultrasound and performing a preliminary scan. The technician will operate ultrasound-imaging equipment that transmits high frequency sound waves through the body and monitor examination by viewing images on video screen.

 

The ideal candidate will have one to two years of experience with Renal Disease and Aorta Iliac Disease.  Should be a Registered Vascular Technologist (RVT) and have experience with report transcription.  Will also be a collaborator in a team environment, have good customer services skills, excellent communication skills, act as a change agent, is an analytical thinker and is accountable for actions.  

 

This position is located at the McNair Campus.

Job Duties

  • Supports Vascular and Podiatry providers in a clinic setting.
  • Operates ultrasound-imaging equipment that transmits high frequency sound waves through the body.
  • Monitors examination by viewing images on a video screen to evaluate quality and consistency of diagnostic images and make adjustments to the equipment as needed.
  • Records and stores suitable images.
  • Observes and cares for patient throughout examinations to ensure patient safety and comfort.
  • Assists physicians in performing invasive procedures by guiding with ultrasound and performing a preliminary scan.
  • Prepares examination reports for physician to aid in the monitoring of patients.
  • Orders and maintains supplies and equipment.
  • Maintains medical record files.
  • Maintains cleanliness of the patient's rooms.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Registration as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS). New employees who are not currently registered, must register within six months of employment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of experience.
  • Registered Vascular Technologist.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish.
