Job Description

Position Summary:

As a Fiber and Data Line Technician, this position will be responsible for the installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of fiber optic and data communication systems. The primary focus will be ensuring the efficient and reliable operation of these systems, supporting the seamless flow of data within and between various networks. This position will also be a backup for other functions within the department

Duties & Responsibilities:

Installation and Deployment:

Install and terminate fiber optic cables, ensuring proper connection and adherence to industry standards
Install and terminate data cables, ensuring proper connection and adherence to industry standards
Collaborate with other teams to design and implement fiber and data line infrastructure based on project requirements


Maintenance and Repairs:

Conduct routine inspections to identify and address potential issues before they impact system performance
Diagnose and troubleshoot network problems, both remotely and on-site
Perform repairs and replacements of faulty or damaged components promptly


Testing and Documentation:

Conduct thorough testing and quality assurance procedures to validate the functionality of installed systems
Document all installations, configurations, and maintenance activities accurately
Maintain records of network performance, equipment inventory, and troubleshooting procedures


Collaboration and Communication:

Collaborate with other technicians, engineers, and relevant stakeholders to ensure effective communication and coordination
Provide technical support and training to end- users as needed
Communicate project progress, issues, and resolutions to the supervisor and project teams


Compliance and Safety:

Adhere to industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols during all activities
Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations related to fiber optic and data communication installations
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

• Strong knowledge of general networking and best practices
• Strong technical aptitude and ability to research & solve complex issues independently
• Willingness and ability to learn new skills and apply them as needed
• Ability to effectively communicate issues and resolutions to all levels of the organization
• Ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive customer and internal information
• Willingness and ability to work from ladders and scaffolding, including heights up to 20’, indoors and outdoors
• Ability to carry equipment up to 50 lbs
