Medical College of Georgia, Department of Neuroscience and Regenerative Medicine at Augusta University is currently seeking a faculty member as an Assistant Research Scientist. This faculty member will participate in project planning and development of research protocols while ensuring adherence to accepted scientific research principles and compliance with relevant federal guidelines and perform a variety of experimental studies including cell biology and molecular biology experiments. Experiments may include but not be limited to cell culture (tissue culture cell lines, human IPSCs, primary cultures from mice), western blot, immunohistochemistry, light and electron microscopy, super-resolution microscopy, live cell imaging, purification and biochemical analysis of cellular organelles, real time PCR, proteomics, RNA-seq, and analysis of microscopy data, including the development of custom software to facilitate analysis. The faculty member will also maintain and update records documenting results, supervise and coordinate activities of students, graduate assistants and other research personnel engaged in research activities and/or related laboratory work, advise principal investigators, other postdocs, students and other research personnel on research techniques, procedures, and other technological aspects of research activities, along with operating microscopes, computer-linked analytical equipment, dedicated computers, and other complex scientific equipment; instruct others in operation of equipment. This position is not considered to be on tenure track.

Responsibilities

• Assisting in grant writing and submission/Scientific manuscripts writing and submission

• Planning, designing, and performing research projects and analyzing the data from these research projects

• Mentoring and supervising postdoctoral fellows, research associate, and graduate students

• Performing administrative and managerial tasks in the laboratory

• Attend lab meetings and discussions of results from research projects

Required Qualifications

PhD or equivalent

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience in cell biology, neuroscience, or microscopy-oriented labs.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

This position is fiscal year based and works year-round.

The intended work commitment or full-time equivalent (FTE) for this position is 1.0 and considered full-time.

Salary and compensation is commensurate with education, experience, and achievements. The salary is subject to availability of funds.
