Job Description

Summary

As a member of the Baylor Pathology team at West Bellfort, the Accessioning Clerk accessions surgical pathology specimens under direct supervision.

The candidate may be trained for gross dissection with qualifying credentials after successful completion of competency.

The work hours will be 1:00pm - 9:30pm.

Job Duties

  • Receives, sorts, and accessions all specimens entering the laboratory into the LIS.
  • Creates specimen cassettes and slides and verifies accurate transposition of accession numbers generated by the (LIS) when matching with specimens.
  • Time stamps patient requisitions upon receipt and sort specimens.
  • Enters patient demographics, physician and clinical information, clinical history, specimen information, and test orders into the LIS.
  • Follows established safety and laboratory procedures at all times and does not deviate in an attempt to save time.
  • Follows the direction of the supervisor while taking initiative in performing and promoting quality and efficiency within the department.
  • Clearly communicates (verbally and in writing) to management and coworkers when issues arise or when communicating information pertaining to shift handoff.
  • Promotes supportive departmental communication with co-workers and management.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • No experience required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of laboratory setting experience.
  • Associate, Bachelor, or accrued credits in the amount of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) from a regionally accredited college/university with a combination of 24 hours equally divided between biology and chemistry.
  • Experience in related field.
  • Ability to follow established procedures.
  • Ability to identify issues and troubleshoot by rootcause analysis and create a plan of correction.
  • Ability to function with efficiency and clear communication.
  • Ability to multitask without compromising quality or efficiency.
  • Must possess strong organizational skills in order to stay on task and meet deadlines.
