Summary

The Department of Medicine division of Cardiology is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nuclear Medicine Technologist using specialized equipment. The Nuclear Medicine Technologist is responsible for using radioactive isotopes to assist in diagnosis. Performs procedures and related techniques, producing images for interpretation by a Cardiologist. Exercises professional judgment in patient care and recognizes patient conditions essential for successful completion of procedures with optimum care for all patients.

Job Duties

  • Confirms appropriateness of ordered exams from the diagnosis.
  • Contacts appropriate medical staff for additional information regarding the patient when necessary.
  • Abstracts exam-pertinent information from the patient and patient's chart and documents this to the abstract form as observed by the Team Leader or documented on the performance improvement monitor.
  • Communicates with the Nuclear Medicine physician to obtain the appropriate exam protocol. Makes informed decisions regarding protocols when the Nuclear Medicine physician is unavailable, as observed by the Team Leader.
  • Labels all films and includes right side markers with no more than 5 adverse occurrences per year as documented by the Performance Improvement Report and/or observed by the Team Leader.
  • Prepares, verifies, and administers radiopharmaceutical as in the manner indicated in the procedure manual and the radiopharmaceutical dose schedule as documented in the Performance Improvement Report and/or observed by the Team Leader.
  • Performs quality control checks for all exams scanned as documented on the patient abstract form and/or performance improvement monitor.
  • Checks each requisition to ensure appropriate exam charges, as documented by the performance improvement monitor or Team
  • Checks the room daily for adequate stock necessary to facilitate continuous exam flow. Maintains appropriate inventory as indicated by posted par levels and updates supply list when items are needed.
  • Prepares patient for procedures: providing instructions to obtain results and answers questions regarding risks and adverse reactions.
  • Verify patient identification by checking for correct patient information for procedure.
  • Complete patient information sheet to obtain history prior to exam.
  • Prepares and administers various forms of radioactive materials.
  • Administer intravenous injections, including regadenoson, aminophylline, and caffeine citrate
  • Selects and operates nuclear medicine equipment.
  • Maintains Hazmat and Radiation Safety training.
  • Positions patients to best demonstrate area of interest.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Associate's degree from an AMA approved school of Nuclear Medicine Technology.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Current Radiologic registration with the Texas Medical Board (TMB) or certification in Nuclear Medicine Technology by the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification Board (NMTCB). Current licensure by the Texas Medical Board (TMB). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field.
  • Graduate of an accredited Nuclear Medicine Program preferred.
  • ARRT or CNMT and Board certified by the Texas Board of Medical Examiners.
  • Three years’ of experience in Nuclear Medicine.
  • Experience with GE Cardiac Nuclear Camera.
  • Must be educated in and compliant with HIPAA.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to handle moderately complex assignments under minimal supervision
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and set priorities within tight timelines.
  • Superior problem solving skills.
  • The ideal candidate would be well rounded in and have extensive knowledge and understanding of Nuclear Medicine Cardiology.
