About Our Team:

The primary mission of the Security and Use Control Assessment Department is to provide an independent assessment of nuclear weapons, nuclear weapons systems, key associated sub-systems, and associated infrastructure in terms of security and use control attributes. Assessments performed by this department are intended to assure the surety objectives of preventing or delaying deliberate unauthorized use of nuclear weapons while not precluding timely authorized use are met. Other related considerations include preventing unauthorized access, sabotage, or theft, and assuring recapture/recovery if physical control is lost. The purpose of independent assessments is to formulate objective technical appraisals of products and activities being assessed in a manner that is credibly independent of influence by those responsible for producing those products or activities. Our assessment functions are carried out in a manner that can be critically judged as independent while being technically comprehensive. A secondary mission of the department is to provide Surety Engineering support, in the areas of security and use control, to customers within the Laboratories and the weapons community during the development and production process. We maximize the leverage of our assessment technologies to provide relative estimates of security and use control contributions of architectures, technologies, sub-systems and systems as they evolve from concepts through development and production.

This posting will be open for application submissions for a minimum of seven (7) calendar days, including the ‘posting date’. Sandia reserves the right to extend the posting date at any time.

Applicants for employment need to be able to maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance, which requires U.S. citizenship. If you hold more than one citizenship (i.e., of the U.S. and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted.

Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.
