Laboratory Technical Assistant - Microbiology

The Laboratory Technical Assistant (LTA) in Microbiology reports directly to the Microbiology Supervisor and plays a key role in supporting daily lab operations. Responsibilities include requisitioning, plating, and processing incoming microbiology specimens, washing and sterilizing glassware, and maintaining cleanliness in the assigned section. The LTA also provides general support across various tasks within the Microbiology area and collaborates with the Clinical Pathology team to help achieve departmental goals.
As a successful candidate, you will:
- Process clinical specimens and prepare stains and smears following established protocols.
- Accurately enter physician orders into the laboratory computer system.
- Receive and distribute laboratory supplies to designated areas.
- Maintain up-to-date knowledge of specimen processing techniques.
- Prioritize tasks to ensure timely and efficient service delivery.
- Collaborate effectively with colleagues while adhering to all departmental and institutional policies, including safety and confidentiality standards.
Your qualifications should include:
- High School or equivalent
- One year patient contact experience in a hospital Microbiology setting
