Job Summary

The Data Analyst works under the direction of the Associate Dean of Research and Director of the Institute for Health Innovation, Data Science and Research (IHI-DSR) for supporting clinical research and analysis needs of faculty, researchers and staff. The data analyst will work with researchers, faculty, staff and students to support projects out of the IHI-DSR that may include research, bioinformatics and other analytic projects within the department. This position is based in Tyler, Texas and requires up to 10% of travel for project meetings with collaborators and for conferences.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Secondary analyses of clinical data, bioinformatics and other public domain data sources.
Primary analysis of longitudinally collected research and program grant data for projects.
Contributing to reports for the SOM, SON, pharmacy, and for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Works closely with the Associate and Assistant Deans of Research. to develop research and program grant data collection, management and analysis plans/strategies.
Develop well documented scripts for data matching, cleaning, and reduction.
Develop reports, data visualization and dashboards for dissemination of analysis findings.
Support data infrastructure development and training for clinical informatics and bioinformatics.
Required Education/Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in data science, statistics, computer science or health science field with strong data management and/or statistics course content within the degree plan
Two (2) years’ of work experience or significant academic/research projects analyzing research data and data management.
Preferred Education/Experience

Preferred master’s degree in in data science, statistics, computer science or health science field with strong data management
Two (2) additional years of experience or equivalent graduate school project experiences with data science (4 total) analyzing research data.
Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Strong data management, data science and statistics preparation and experience analyzing and linking large datasets.
Good understanding of the types of public domain data that are used in public health analyses and have experience utilizing these datasets.
Demonstrated experience with technical writing and with documenting code/scripts used for data analyses and cleaning.
Strong scripting skills with R, Python, or SAS and experience analyzing data in R, SAS, or STATA including writing syntax.
Experience using electronic data collection systems (such as REDCap, Qualtrics, or fillable PDF forms).
Strong communication skills and experience presenting at conferences.
