Under close supervision of U54 grant PIs/PD, senior research assistant, and the Research Infrastructure Core Director, the Biomedical Research assistant supports biomedical research activities within the Center for Biomedical and Health Research (CBMHR). This position assists with laboratory experiments, drug discovery, AI/ML drug discovery, bioanalysis, imaging, cell handling, drug formulation, small animal studies, and data collection. The role provides technical and operational support to CBMHR leadership, faculty, staff, and users, contributes to data reporting and dissemination, and supports federally funded research projects.

This is an entry-level research assistant position designed for individuals with a bachelor’s degree seeking advanced research training and experience in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences.
This is a Grant Funded position.
Essential Duties Summary
Assist with laboratory-based biomedical research activities, including in vitro, in vivo and computational studies bioanalysis, and formulation-related experiments in the RCMI-CBMHR core facilities.
Support operation, routine maintenance, calibration, and cleaning of laboratory instruments under supervision.
Conduct laboratory experiments following established protocols, including sample preparation, data collection, and preliminary data analysis.
Assist with in vitro characterization studies such as physicochemical drug properties, dissolution testing, drug metabolism, and cellular permeation assays.
Maintain accurate laboratory records, electronic databases, and inventory logs in compliance with institutional and funding agency requirements.
Provide technical assistance and service support to CBMHR faculty, students, and internal/external users.
Assist PIs and senior staff with preparation of progress reports, data summaries, and research documentation.
Support manuscript preparation, poster development, and conference presentations.
Assist with training undergraduate students in basic laboratory techniques and research best practices.
Ensure compliance with laboratory safety, biosafety, and animal care protocols.
Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Education
Bachelor’s degree in biomedical sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, biology, chemistry, Computer science, physics or a closely related field. Prior laboratory research experience (academic or industry), including internships, capstone projects, or research assistantships, is required.

Work Experience
Preferred experience with programing language, cell culture, analytical instrumentation, animal handling.
Ability to maintain the security or integrity of critical infrastructure, which may include communications systems, computer networks and systems, cybersecurity systems, electrical grid, hazardous waste treatment or water treatment system.
Working/Environmental Conditions
Work is performed primarily in a laboratory and routine office environment. May involve standing for extended periods, handling laboratory equipment, and lifting light objects. Adherence to laboratory safety guidelines is required.
