Job DescriptionTennessee State University Office of Technology Services invites applications for the position of Desktop Technician.
This position is part of the Office of Technology Services (OTS) User Service team and reports to the User Services manager. This position will provide Tier I/Tier II support for internal and external customers at Tennessee State University.
The Desktop Technician will fulfill the following job duties: basic to advanced troubleshooting of campus desktop technologies including desktop PCs, laptops, printers, software installation and maintenance, inventory management, and retrieval/removal of outdated equipment. This role will operate and maintain a multi-platform environment that includes various equipment and technologies; install and maintain a variety of PC-based software applications; detect, troubleshoot, and report system problems related to Dell, Lenovo, Apple, HP, Xerox and other manufactured devices; upkeep multifunction printers; create and maintain documentation for repair and troubleshooting procedures; establish and maintain working relationships with students, faculty, and staff both internal and external of the university in order to effectively gather and convey information.
Collaborate with Help Desk staff, technicians, system coordinators, and other groups within OTS to develop technical solutions to problems. Explore and develop new methods for resolving technical issues including desktop hardware and software issues, account and password management, and student portal use.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires graduation from a standard high school or equivalent with formal academic training in computer science, information systems or related field plus at least one-year experience in PC maintenance and networking. An associate degree or higher specializing in an IT or technology related field is not required but preferred. Although an entry level position, a minimum of 1 yr. experience working in an IT professional environment or computer related field is preferred but not required. CompTIA A+, Net+, Sec+, ITIL or other IT related certifications are not required but preferred. Ability to provide professional customer service and documentation is required. Must be able lift 50 lbs. minimum.
