Job Description

Summary

The Summer Research Intern will receive hands-on training in biomedical neuroscience and genetics, with experience in qPCR, immunofluorescent neuronal staining, Western blotting, and data analysis. The intern will apply these techniques to study Alzheimer’s disease–related genetic networks.

Additional training includes literature searches, primer design, gene and mRNA analysis, scientific figure preparation, and lab notebook maintenance. The intern will participate in wet-lab activities, shadow human iPSC differentiation, assist with neuronal cell culture, and analyze experimental data.

To build scientific communication skills, the intern will present one journal club and deliver a final PowerPoint presentation summarizing their summer research findings.

Job Purpose

Minimum Qualifications

Must be enrolled in high school, trade/vocational school or higher education institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • For this internship, applicants are preferred to major in Neuroscience, Genetic, or Biological Science disciplines, or on the pre-med track. It is preferred, but not required that interns have previous lab research experience either from their college courses or from independent lab experience. Interns should have previously taken basic biology courses (biology, chemistry, cell and molecular bio etc.) to complement their training experience for their summer research.
