What Your Job Will Be Like:
We are seeking a skilled and motivated Mechanical Trades professional specializing in Fire Protection to join our dynamic team, where you will play a critical role in ensuring the safety, reliability, and efficiency of our facilities mechanical and fire protection systems.
On any given day, you may be called on to:
Obtain and analyze job information to lay-out, install, modify, overhaul, troubleshoot, repair and maintain facilities mechanical equipment. Work involves heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC systems); plumbing; pipefitting; water treatment; and associated fixtures and components, and Fire Protection Systems. Major job functions include: building system operations; repair and maintenance of facilities mechanical equipment. Perform operations, predictive, preventive, and corrective maintenance on all types of refrigeration, air conditioning, heating, piping systems, boilers, chemical treatment, testing of water systems and all associated equipment. Detect and mark interior and exterior mechanical utilities; layout, fabricate, install, modify, overhaul, repair, maintain, control, operate and regulate, and dismantle mechanical piping systems. Must have after-hours on-call availability and work weekends in support of outages.
As a condition of employment, Metal Trades positions are represented by the Metal Trades Council (MTC) and represented employees must pay the monthly dues or agency fee.
Qualifications We Require:
- Lay-out, install, inspect, modify, overhaul, troubleshoot, repair and maintain facilities Fire Protection systems and equipment.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal standards and regulations. Work involves all types of Fire Protection Systems, including wet, dry, deluge, pre-action systems, fire pumps, antifreeze systems and backflow prevention.
- Major responsibilities include planning and performing Inspection, Testing, and Maintenance on various types of fire sprinkler systems such as predictive, preventive and corrective maintenance of fire suppression/sprinkler system piping and building water supply piping systems.
- Must have experience in the construction of fire sprinkler systems and the understanding of the associated hazards involved with fabrication of piping.
- Must be able to obtain the 40-hour backflow certification.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the following NFPA codes 13, 14, 16, 20, and 25 as well as NFPA 72 fire alarm code.
- Utilize a computerized database to maintain required records and access and operate the electronic fire alarm system control panels.
- Must consult with engineers and requestors to clarify or establish specifications for building mechanical fire protection systems.
- Able to perform work using industry-standard safety practices.
- Able to communicate with other trades and provide direction to other employees as required.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE "Q" Clearance
Qualifications We Desire:
- Typical experience includes minimum of 5 - 8 years as a fully qualified Mechanical Tradesman and completion of a State approved mechanical apprenticeship program
- Completion of a state approved fire protection sprinkler fitter apprenticeship program and a sprinkler fitter's journeyman's license
- Applicants must have a NICET Certification or capable of obtaining this certification.
- Demonstrate a working knowledge of the following NFPA codes and standards; 13, 14, 16, 20, 25 and 1141, as well as, the NFPA 72-Fire Alarm Code.
- Ability to work in a team environment and independently.
- Knowledge of MAXIMO.

About Our Team:
The Electrical and Fire Protection Maintenance Department provides electrical and utility preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance and fire suppression services for the Sandia/NM site. The department is responsible for maintenance in the areas of high voltage, fire alarm detection and reporting systems, street lighting, building lighting, power metering, low voltage building preventative maintenance, emergency lighting/inverters, intrusion alarm system support, electrically operated roll-up doors, gates, and standup generators

Security Clearance:
Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications. NNSA Requirements for MedPEDs:
