General Description of the Position
Reporting to the Dean of Wesley College of Health and Behavioral Sciences, the Department Chair for Nursing advocates for the mission of the department and acts as its representative to the administration and outside constituencies. All activities are consistent with the strategic plan of the University and all requirements of Accrediting Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN), the accrediting body for the programs. The Department Chair serves as a mentor and facilitator for the faculty and staff within the department and as an administrator of the department in accomplishing necessary managerial tasks. The Department Chair serves also chief nursing administrator for the Department of Nursing. Tenure may be granted upon hire, if candidate meets the requirements per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), section 8.9.1.

Essential Functions & Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Facilitate the academic and pre-professional programs of thedepartment.
Understand and enforce the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) andEmployee Handbook.
Promote the academic quality of the department as well as the nursing discipline.
Supervise, evaluate, and mentor all department faculty and staff to meetdepartment goals.
Oversee the graduate program admissions, matriculation through graduationaudits, in conjunction with Graduate Adult and ExtendedStudies.
Monitor the professional development plan of each faculty and staff member. Ensure that faculty in the department are fully engaged in departmental and general faculty duties, teaching, and research, along with committee assignments (Department and University).
Ensure regular faculty mentoring and peer-class observations and evaluations.Facilitate the evaluation ofadjuncts.
Encourage and monitor faculty proposals for contracts and grants togovernmental agencies and privatefoundations.
Generate revenue for and manage the department with the acquisition of state,federal, and privatefunding.
Actively participate in university-sponsored fund-raisinginitiatives.
Manage the departmental assessment process and conduct annualreviews.
Serve as lead for day-to-day ACEN accreditation compliance and during the ACEN accreditation process, self-study and site visits, writing and editing the reports and managing the team to assist in reaffirmation.
To ensure compliance with Delaware Board of Nursing (BON) regulations and multi-state licensure expectations.
Preside in regularly scheduled departmental/committee meetings and maintainminutes.
Serve as a liaison and provide information to administrative offices, faculty committees, and at hoc committees, accrediting organizations, other groups, and departments.
Maintain department and studentrecords.
Respond in a timely manner to student-related issues with appropriate documentation whenapplicable.
Keep abreast of developments in the field by reading current literature, engaging colleagues, and participating in professional conferences and professional development.
Review current offerings and syllabi, textbooks, and other instructional materialsin conjunction with the appropriate department/collegecommittee(s).
Develop and manage a department strategic plan in alignment with the University and the college: growing and sustaining programs; identifying new viable curricular/co-curricular offerings; revising existing programs and other academic policies; and leading these changes through the appropriate approvalprocess.
Participate in research, writing, creative, and related work pertaining to self-studies, program review or program-relatedreports.
Ensure student persistence, retention and success for all nursing students by assessing curriculum and processes annually.
Responsible for departmental budget planning and fiscal management, in consultation with thedean.
Supervision of the teaching, advisement, and other duties performed by faculty and adjunct to meet the department’s academicgoals.
Monitor the required attendance of faculty members at Convocation, Commencement (per the CBA), and other University-sponsored functions; encourage service on university-wide committees.
Formulate and communicate recommendations for recruitment and selection of department faculty and staff for hiring appointment; and evaluate those members for retention, reappointment, non-reappointment, promotion, tenure and sabbatical leave.
Recommend teaching assignments and special assignments for faculty workloads to the dean.
Recommend leaves and special assignments to thedean.
Perform other duties as assigned by the Dean or Provost/Vice President of Academic Affairs.
Qualification Standards
Minimum of doctoral degree with graduate preparation in nursing at either themaster's or doctorallevel.
Minimum of seven years of experience in Clinical Nursing, Nursing Administration or Nursing Education, or any combination of such experience, preferably in a baccalaureate degree program.
Demonstrated record of teaching, research, grant writing, publications and leadershipto merit appointment to the position and advanced rank.
A strong knowledge of nursing practice and accreditation prescribed by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) and the Delaware Board of Nursing.
Proven track record in teaching and working with a diverse studentpopulation.
Demonstrated commitment to publicservice.
Demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with departmental and universityfaculty andstaff.
Eligible for unencumbered RN license in the State ofDelaware.
Record of scholarship, teaching, and professional experience.
Evidence of having a collaborative and transformative leadershipstyle.
Evidence of having successful supervisory experience in highereducation.
Knowledge of the accredited programs related to the programs of thedepartment.
Experience with administrative leadership and know how to acquire extramural grant funding.
Management of traditional and onlineprograms.
