Job Description

Summary

The candidate will assist with research projects and routine lab operations. Lab managerial responsibilities include placing orders, maintaining laboratory inventories, overseeing service repairs, ensuring that all machines are in good working condition, and assisting with protocol renewals. Research responsibilities include handling a few mouse colonies, performing molecular biology and cell culture experiments, and conducting the related data analysis and troubleshooting. Prior experience in an academic research laboratory and in cardiometabolic phenotyping studies is preferred. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, be able to work independently with minimal supervision, and function effectively as part of a collaborative research team.

Job Duties

  • Experiment tasks include but are not limited to immunohistochemistry, western blotting, tissue imaging, mouse surgeries, and cell culture.
  • Performs animal colony maintenance and husbandry, including genotyping or postoperative care when needed.
  • Conducts literature searches and summaries to aid in planning of laboratory experiments.
  • Interacts with core facilities for processing of tissue or other experimental samples.
  • Performs lab managerial tasks including ordering.
  • Collects, analyzes, and summarizes experimental data into graphs and presentation format and assist with publications as needed.
  • Documents experiments in laboratory notebooks accurately that would allow others to successfully replicate experiments.
  • Oversees biohazardous and chemical waste disposal.
  • Maintains lab equipment, arranges for service repairs, and ensures that all machines are in good working condition.
  • Prepares inventories of chemicals, reagents, consumables, drugs, cell stocks, and tissue samples.
  • Monitors supplies for re-ordering.
  • Assists protocol renewals and inspection.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a Basic Science or a related field.
  • Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in a related field.
  • Prior expertise in any of the following areas would be a good fit: immunology, drug development, cardiac physiology, or biochemistry.
