Job Description

Description of Job Duties and Responsibilities
Generally, this position will be responsible for working on the day to day desktop support tasks assigned as well as participate on projects, either as a project team member or as the project manager. The position will find solutions and develop methodologies and either implement them or oversee their implantation.

Procurement:
Consult with faculty and staff to define needs and/or problems and determine the acceptable solutions.
Ensure new technology is compatible with the existing computing environment.
Determine the specifications for, locate vendors, and obtain quotes for hardware and software procurement.

Development:
Work with others in Information Technology Commons to create, deploy, and maintain software images for desktops and laptops.
Write scripts to aid in software deployment and
configuration.

Setup / Maintenance:
Configure and deploy new or re-purposed systems for faculty, staff, and labs.
Install, configure, and update/upgrade software and hardware as needed.
Maintain and repair systems that are not operating correctly.
Diagnose and determine the proper repairs for hardware and software issues.
Troubleshoot and obtain warranty parts for malfunctioning systems.
Recover data from failed storage media.
Cleanse systems of malware.
Replace systems that are beyond repair.
Assist in the management of all campus computer labs.
Work closely with Deans and faculty to ensure that labs meet their varying requirements and are also kept up-to-date for security purposes. Manage installations and upgrades in the most efficient way possible.
Provide some AV troubleshooting and support as needed.
Dispose of systems and peripherals that are broken or beyond their useful life. Salvage usable parts to use for as spare or replacement parts.

Networking:
Triage networking issues to determine if and when the Networking group needs to be involved.
Resolve simple networking issues.
Work with the Networking group to resolve moderate to complex networking issues.

System Administration:
Obtain and maintain software licenses. This may include online software license management, local server setup and configuration, and network license deployment.
Manage and maintain computer objects in Active Directory.
Provide the inventory team with any inventory changes.

Management:
Assist in the management and training of the student computer technicians.
Manage and prioritize multiple service requests and projects with minimal direct supervision.
Schedule and coordinate downtime with departments.
Train junior team members.
Participate in cross-training with other IT areas such as A/V, Networking, etc.
Minimum Required Education
Bachelor’s ’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field preferred.
Required Licenses and/or Certifications
None required, but related certifications are a plus.
Minimum Required Qualifications
Prefer at least (3) years of actual work experience (in addition to the any work experience used to satisfy the education requirement). This position requires the ability to work either independently or as part of a team. Requires a high degree of knowledge in technology practices and procedures, interpersonal and communication skills, ability to prioritize, ability to take initiatives, ability to perform duties in a timely fashion, and the ability to take direction as well as give it. Working knowledge of the Windows, MacOS, Linux, Android, and iOS operating systems as well as the MS Office Suite.
