Phlebotomy Technicians are essential members of the medical laboratory team, responsible for theaccurateand efficient collection of blood samples from patients. Because manyindividualschildren, teens, and adults alike may feel anxious or fearful about needles or the blood-draw process, skilled phlebotomists play a critical role in creating a calm, reassuring experience. By usingstrong communicationskills, empathy, and proper technique, they help put patients at ease while obtaining high-quality specimens.
A caregiver in this position worksfromfull-time| days|6:00am – 6:00pm.
A caregiver who excels in this role will:
Perform blood collection procedures, follow venipunctureproceduresandmaintainappropriate logsheets.
Verify order requests andidentifyinformation prior to drawing blood or collecting the specimen/kit.
Label all specimens collected and deliver them to theappropriate processingarea.
Perform specimen processing and send out tasks,including accessioning,centrifugationand packaging.
Pick up and deliver blood, other sampletypesand lab supplies.
Travel to various locations within the enterprise.
Complete andsubmitappropriate administrativepaperwork and log sheets, such as time and mileage reports.
Be flexible to work at assigned locations and hours thatare in need ofcoverage.Location may vary daily and bedeterminedwith minimal notice.
Follow proper laboratory safety procedures.
Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
High school diploma or GED
One year ofcurrentphlebotomy experience
Experienced and proficient in blood collection from all patient populations
Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or the American Red Cross(upon hire or within six months of employment)
Current, valid driver’s license
Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:
Graduation certificate from a formal accredited phlebotomy program
Phlebotomy certification
Two years of current phlebotomy experience
Physical Requirements:
- Requires frequent and long durations of standing and walking.
- Visual acuity including the ability to distinguish colors.
- Manual dexterity sufficient to manipulate blood drawing equipment and make measurements.
Personal Protective Equipment:
- Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.
Pay Range
Minimum hourly: $19.25
Maximum hourly: $29.30
The pay range displayed on this job posting reflects the anticipated range for new hires. A successful candidate’s actual compensation will be determined after taking factors into consideration such as the candidate’s work history, experience, skill set and education.
