Saint Mary's College seeks to hire a per-course adjunct faculty member to teach
TRS 334 and 334 EL (Engaged Learning), "Our Lady of Guadalupe: Mother of a New Creation" in the traditional undergraduate program in Fall 2026 (August 31 to December 20, 2026).
Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:20-4:35PM
This course will be taught in person on the Moraga campus.
Course Description:
This course critically examines the tradition of Our Lady of Guadalupe from historical and theological perspectives, tracing its development from its origins to the present day. Special attention will be given to Guadalupe's significance for the religious and cultural identity of Mexican and Mexican American communities. The course will also explore Guadalupe as the Mother of Jesus in the Americas and as a maternal and feminine expression of God's presence and care. Students of all faiths, traditions, and cultural backgrounds are welcome. This course fulfills the "Theological Explorations" (TE) learning outcome.
This course includes an Engaged Learning component. Engaged Learning, an important dimension of Lasallian education, provides students with opportunities to apply their academic knowledge and skills in service to a community and to learn in partnership with its members. Students are expected to spend approximately 20 to 30 hours working with the community partner, in addition to completing the related Engaged Learning coursework.
Qualifications:
Candidates must possess one of the following:

  • An earned doctorate in theology or religious studies, together with a documented scholarly specialization in Latinx theology, Latinx religious experience, or a closely related field; or

  • Current and active ABD status in theology or religious studies, with a scholarly specialization in Latinx theology, Latinx religious experience, or a closely related field, with all required doctoral coursework and qualifying or comprehensive examinations completed, and with demonstrated progress toward completion of the dissertation.

Preference will be given to candidates who provide evidence of teaching effectiveness in Latinx theology or Latinx religious experience, particularly at the undergraduate level. Additional preference will be given to candidates with teaching or professional experience at Hispanic-Serving Institutions.
Candidates must reside in California.
The salary range for this position is $9,929 -$13,744 dependent on qualifications. The salary range for this position is covered by the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the College and SEIU, Local 1021, available here.
