Summary

The Department of Pediatrics section of Neurology is seeking an Instructor.

Genetic Counselor is responsible for providing expert genetic counseling services that support clinical care, translational research, and precision medicine initiatives within the Neurological Research Institute (NRI). This faculty position integrates clinical genetic counseling with federally funded genomic research, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to advance pediatric neurological and rare disease research while improving patient outcomes.

The Instructor serves as a subject matter expert in medical genetics and genomics by counseling patients and families, interpreting genetic test results, coordinating research studies, mentoring trainees, and contributing to scientific publications, grant activities, and educational programs.

Job Duties

  • Utilize Genetic Counseling Expertise to Optimize Study Outcomes
  • Identify, recruit, and obtain informed consent from individuals and families for participation in genomic and clinical research studies.
  • Document comprehensive family histories, pedigrees, and hereditary risk assessments.
  • Collect and organize prior genetic testing reports, medical records, neuroimaging studies.
  • HIPAA authorizations, and other required clinical documentation.
  • Provide comprehensive genetic counseling regarding inherited neurological disorders, genomic findings, recurrence risks, and testing options for pediatric and adult patients in inpatient, outpatient, telehealth, and research settings.
  • Interpret molecular diagnostic testing, chromosomal studies, whole exome sequencing, whole genome sequencing, and other genomic laboratory results.
  • Coordinate genetic testing for research studies and maintain accurate regulatory and study documentation.
  • Communicate effectively with study participants, principal investigators, physicians, healthcare providers, and genetic testing laboratories regarding study activities and genetic findings.
  • Conduct participant interviews, collect research data, disclose genetic test results, provide post-test counseling, and develop surveys to support research data collection and analysis.
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret clinical, neuropsychological, neuroimaging, and genomic sequencing findings.
  • Develop, maintain, and update participant databases, study records, and research documentation.
  • Participate in multidisciplinary neurogenetics and rare disease clinics to facilitate coordinated patient care and research integration.

Minimum Qualifications

  • EducationRequired: Master's degree in Genetic Counseling.
  • Experience Required:None required.
  • Certification/Licenses/Registration Required: Certified Genetic Counselor (CGC) by the American Board of Genetic Counseling (ABGC).
