Job Summary
Salt Lake Community College is located on the beautiful Wasatch front which offers hiking, skiing, a plethora of enjoyable entertainment and culture. SLCC is a vast college of over 60,000 students which values and endorses strong and effective academic leadership. Associate Deans (ADs), are the foundation for strong and effective academic leadership. SLCC’s ADs are primarily responsible for shaping a division’s success, growth, and future. They have a direct influence over the professional growth and development of individual faculty and students and their programs of study. ADs serve as leaders for faculty in their teaching and service roles. ADs are full-time administrators.

The work and effort of effective ADs transcends routine management tasks. The Nursing AD must clarify, communicate, and implement the division’s vision, mission, guiding principles, goals, and expectations. Acting as the primary spokesperson for assigned faculty and students, this position works with College administration, peer institutions, the community, and prospective students in the critical areas of curriculum development, recruitment, and retention. They must proactively facilitate professional teamwork among faculty members in order to achieve the desired vision and mission as the best skills, knowledge, and attitudes of faculty are implemented in a collective effort to achieve that end.

The Associate Dean of Nursing provides leadership, supervision, and management for Division personnel; supervises and coordinates Division processes and procedures to insure high-quality education and training for Salt Lake Community College nursing students. Mentor and guide full- and part-time nursing faculty, lab assistants, and staff. Reports to the Dean of Health Sciences.

Ability to lead, direct, and manage departmental personnel, making appropriate decisions.
Ability to manage the division in compliance with College policies, procedures, guidelines, and directions.
Commitment to keep the College accessible to a diverse urban population.
Ability to communicate effectively with a broad range of people with a variety of abilities and backgrounds, to maintain good working relationships across the College.
Ability to work with all groups from a variety of academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and with community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities.
Minimum qualifications
Masters Degree, from an accredited college or university in Nursing required.
An active and unencumbered nursing license in the state of Utah, or the ability to be licensed within 60 days of hire.
Minimum of three (3) years full-time, college-level teaching experience.
Minimum of two (2) years of clinical experience working in a nursing discipline are required.
Preferred Qualifications
Doctoral Degree in nursing, from a college or university.
Prior experience with ACEN accreditation processes.
Prefer a macro-level leadership style that is open, honest, and a willingness to actively listen and follow through.
Successful experience writing grants.
