Summary

The research coordinator will work with a dedicated team focused on the metabolism in aging. The team is focused aging and diabetes. The primary responsibility will be to assist in an ongoing study in aging, with additional responsibilities to assist in pilot studies as required. The coordinator will be trained to work in this role under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and study personnel, and will perform a wide range of functions relevant to the ongoing study and other potential projects.

The candidate will work under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Junior Faculty in the team. The team is focused on studies involving aging and diabetes. The position requires learning specific new tasks and procedures relevant to the studies, and be willing to take on any new responsibilities as may be required by studies.

The candidate needs to perform their responsibilities cohesively with the study team, with integrity, attention to detail, and working well with other people (study participants, research nursing staff, other members of the team etc.)

Job Duties

Clinical Coordination 60%

• Interviews, screens, and recruits patients for studies; explains process and procedures to educate participant regarding the research study.
• Schedules research participants for tests and procedures specific for the research protocol.
• Corresponds with patients throughout study involvement. Orders supplies and equipment.
• Learn and perform study procedures as required by study protocols.
• Collect, process, ship, and maintain paperwork for blood and/or biological specimens according to procedures outlined in study protocol.

Data Entry/lab analysis 35%

• Collects patient information; processes documents and enters information into a database.
• Maintains records and regulatory documents and records for research studies.
• Performs lab analyses under supervision.
• Retrieves and files test results in patient records.

Regulatory 5%

• Helps the Principal Investigator and study team with documentation for filing with regulatory bodies (e.g. FDA)
• Performs other job duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High School diploma or GED.
• Three years of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in a related field. Four years of related experience may substitute for degree requirement.
• Demonstrated interest in clinical research, academic research, or healthcare-related work.
• Spanish bilingual proficiency preferred but not required.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and ability to follow research protocols.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to learn complex research procedures and work independently after training.
• Candidates seeking a long-term opportunity are strongly preferred, with a commitment to remain in the role for several years due to the extensive training involved.
• Experience working in a research, academic, healthcare, or laboratory setting preferred.
• Candidates with primarily retail-focused backgrounds or experience unrelated to research may not be considered competitive for this position.
