Position Summary

City of Hope is seeking a skilled and compassionate Hematology Nurse to join our team. As a vital member of our healthcare team, you will be responsible for providing exceptional care to patients with hematologic disorders in an outpatient setting. Your primary focus will be on delivering comprehensive nursing care, education, and support to patients preparing for transplants or as part of research protocols for BMT, Allo, Auto, etc... This opportunity is for per diem, 10-hour shifts, and is designated for the day shift (8:00am start time). The per diem flat rate for this position is $72.605/hr. There is a minimum of 1 shift per week availability required for per diem.

As a successful candidate, you will:

  • Patient Assessment and Monitoring: Conduct thorough assessments of patients' hematologic conditions, including reviewing medical history, performing physical examinations, and assessing laboratory results. Monitor patients' responses to treatment and intervene promptly to address any changes in their condition.
  • Treatment Administration: Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, blood transfusions, and other hematologic treatments as prescribed by physicians. Ensure accurate dosing, monitor for adverse reactions, and provide patient education on treatment protocols and potential side effects.
  • Symptom Management: Assess and manage symptoms related to hematologic disorders, such as pain, fatigue, nausea, and anemia. Administer medications, provide comfort measures, and educate patients on self-care techniques to improve symptom control and enhance quality of life.
  • Patient Education: Provide comprehensive education to patients and their families about their hematologic conditions, treatment options, and self-management strategies. Offer guidance on medication adherence, dietary modifications, symptom monitoring, and accessing support services.
  • Care Coordination: Collaborate with physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and implement individualized care plans for patients. Coordinate appointments, diagnostic tests, and referrals to ensure seamless continuity of care.

Your qualifications should include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in Nursing is required. If ADN only, must obtain BSN within three years of hire or transfer.
  • Current California RN license
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in an acute care setting and/or outpatient setting
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) CPR Card through American Heart Association
